Expanding Our Presence in the UK and European Market
At Namibian Hardwood UK Ltd, we are proud to have a diverse team of individuals from different backgrounds and cultures who share our passion for sustainable and ethical practices to bring you the best clean burning braaiwood , firewood and BBQ essentials right to your door here in the UK.
Our team includes Jeandré and Darren Gibbons, and our founder of the Cape Town branch Phillip Kleinhans. Jeandré has been working along with Phillip at his Cape Town offices since 2015, and has built up knowledge about all areas involving Namibian Hardwood firewood and BBQ / Braai wood / charcoal. As a husband and wife team, the UK branch is run as a family owned business, making sure the vision which Phillip has is always upheld. Once we all realised we share the same goals and dreams, the decision was easy to branch out to the UK. We knew immediately that customers in the UK would enjoy the products for both fireplaces and BBQ / Braai and that it would quickly become a household brand; Phillip has a great understanding in the UK market as he has been exporting Braaiwood ; Namibian hardwood firewood ; charcoal and various African Decor items to the the UK since 2006; and we keep on growing year on year.
At the forefront of the deliveries and making sure the warehouse is kept up to standard, Darren has proven to be an excellent asset to the already established team.
We are all incredibly proud of the care that is put into the products, from production to being supplied to each customer. Each person involved in the process, from the starting point on our own farms in Namibia to the teams processing it for distribution, handles each bag with pride and respect. Thanks to the combined vision and love for our firewood and BBQ / Braaiwood products, the UK can now enjoy the same high-quality products as those in South Africa, and the rest of the world!
We are READY TO BURN ( WOODSURE ) on all our wood products.
The team at Namibian Hardwood UK Ltd strives to bring the same quality of product and service that customers in South Africa have been accustomed to over the years, by bringing the warmth of Namibia and South Africa to each customer’s doorstep.
Social Responsibility
Our harvesting practices:
At Namibian Hardwood UK Ltd., we protect and preserve species like Kameeldoring/Camel thorn and mopane trees. We only harvest them if they are dead. The Namibian Department of Forestry inspects farms regularly and issues harvesting permits according to what is available. We never touch live trees as their seed pods provide healthy food for animals. A 2-4 hectares of land provides about 35 tons of dry wood, and farms could range from 3,500 to 12,000 hectares.
Protecting the environment
Namibian Hardwood UK Ltd. takes pride in actively preserving the natural environment. As the world focuses on environmental and conservation issues, we recognize that harvesting and selling natural products like wood is a concern for many. That’s why we work closely with the Namibian Government to ensure our practices leave a positive mark for future generations and minimise our carbon footprint.
Namibia’s wood industry:
The wood industry in Namibia is tightly regulated and monitored by the Department of Agriculture and Ministry of Forestry. At Namibian Hardwood UK LTD, we comply with all permits, regulations, and laws laid out by the Department. We sell various acacia species, as well as Siclebush, and a Thornwood Mix, which are alien/invader bushes and pest trees in Namibia. As they compete with the main sources of income for the country (game meat, minerals, and tourism), we work with the Government and farmers to remove the bushes and trees, which we turn into firewood, and allow for more grass growth to provide food for animals.
Alien/invader species from Namibia:
Namibia exports approximately 65-80,000 tons of alien/invader wood every year, creating jobs for over 170,000 people. Namibian Hardwood UK Ltd is actively involved in removing alien / invader species from Namibia while also creating work opportunities for over 500 people, most of whom live in poverty conditions. Our impact goes beyond profit; we make a difference in the lives of people and the planet.
Current statistics by the Namibian Department of Forestry:
The Namibian Department of Forestry estimates that the invader bushes and trees we harvest will last between 90-100 years. The invader bushes and trees that are allowed to be removed alive take 7-15 years to grow and are then harvested for fuel. Some farmers opt to have the invader bushes regrown, as it is a sustainable income.
